Frequently asked questions

What is LeRoc?
Its about people having fun!

Learning to dance

Middle Age Couple

LeRoc is a fusion of jive, smooth, tango, wcs and latin dance styles, great fun and easy to learn. LeRoc, sometimes known as Modern Jive - is one of the most popular forms of partner dancing in the UK today, in fact maybe the last 15 years. Everyone says its more than just a dance class, it's a great social night out too, it's my best night of the week!

Do I need a partner?

Because it’s a Social dance it won't be necessary to bring a partner because the classes are organised in such a way, being rotationally that you'll dance with many different partners throughout the evening. But if you want to bring a partner or a group of friends, do! Some people will ask if they can I stay with their partner, then sure but we encourage the social side once you found your feet.

What should I wear?

We recommend light causal clothes to begin with and shoes with a non-grippy sole that allow you to turn, spin and move around easily on the dance floor. Also you may want to bring a spare top (& deodorant!).

How do I start? Is it necessary to book in advance?

You can start any week as LeRoc isn't run as a course, so there's no booking or enrolling to be done. You simply turn up, sign in and be ready for 7.55pm class. Nearly every week complete beginners turn up, hence we always run a beginners class. It also mean you if you cant come every week, you are not at a disadvantage, fit in dancing when you can.

What does it cost?

£10pp
The admission fee is for the whole evening, and includes the beginner class, the intermediate class (or beginners consolidation session) and the freestyle session, representing excellent value for money.

(or Freestyle practice from 9.30pm is £8pp)

Do I have to become a member?
Yes we sign you up free on your first visit. (Insurance reasons)

Who can attend a LeRoc class night?

Complete beginners, people with two left feet, in fact practically anyone aged 18 or over who's reasonably fit can attend a LeRoc night. We have very active senior jivers too. If you're unsure about your fitness please consult your GP.

What kind of music is played?

The music played on a LeRoc night is a fantastic, uplifting selection covering many different styles(modern, blues, rock, swing, r&b etc and eras. Pibull, Enrique, Chris Rea, Michael Buble, Robin Thicke, Caro Emerald, , Kylie, Sam Cooke ... to name but a few.

Please note it is our intention to keep all parts of the web site up todate but LeRoc Surrey reserves the right to alters any up dates asap. What typically happens in a LeRoc class?

All our dancers are welcomed, even if you've never danced a single step in your life. Most people say that the hardest part is taking the courage to turn up for the first time! We all know that feeling, then we surprise ourselves at how much we enjoy it and spread the word amongst friends.

7:45 – 7.55 - Arrive, sign in and get ready...

7:55 - 8:30 - Beginners class

Join in the fun and learn 3-4 easy moves. Don't forget there will be other beginners in the same class as well as more experienced dancers, plus our crew helpers, so you won't be on your own.

8:30 - 8.45 - Break or Freestyle Period

Drink, chat or get back on the floor and practise those moves you've just learnt while the DJ spins a few tunes.

8:45 - 9:20 - Beginner's Consolidation

While the Intermediate class is taking place, a small team of LeRoc Crew dancers are on hand to review the moves you learned earlier on.

OR....

8:45 - 9:30 - Intermediate class (may finish slightly earlier on occasions)

We recommend when you are confident you've grasped the basics or after you've joined in 5 or 6 beginner classes you'll have the confidence and basics skills to have a go at the intermediate class. These cover more exciting and interesting moves helping to add variety and style to your dancing. If however you decide you're not quite ready and need to get the basics right, practice those beginner moves again in the Consolidation class, many of our dance champions started in exactly the same way

Then....

9:30 (approx) - 10.45  - Freestyle Tuesdays

Here we go with the lights down, music up and hit the floor for over hour of non-stop dancing to the best in LeRoc music. Never be shy - ask someone for a dance, its social - a LeRoc night is friendly and great fun!
